CRAZY! Jack Nicklaus Accidentally Trashes PGA Tour Players While Celebrating Scottie Scheffler Win At The Memorial

Scottie Scheffler is the best golfer on the planet at the moment. That much is undeniable, and it’s the reason he has a No. 1 next to his name on the Official World Golf Rankings. But in praising Scheffler after his win at The Memorial over the weekend, tournament host Jack Nicklaus also threw the rest of the PGA Tour under the bus.
Scheffler won by four strokes over fellow American Ben Griffin, who has had a breakout season on tour. Behind him were Sepp Straka and Nick Taylor, while Maverick McNealy and Russell Henley tied to round out the top five. All of those guys are solid players, but it’s hardly the cream of the crop. And Nicklaus was sure to make his feelings clear.

“Well, I think that great players are ones who rise to the occasion and ones who know how to play coming down the stretch in important events,” Nicklaus stated. “Looking at the leaderboard today, he didn’t have – I mean, Ben Griffin’s a nice player, Sepp Straka is a nice player, Nick Taylor is a nice player. Those were all the guys that were there basically coming down the stretch.
“But he knows that those guys, you know, are not in his league.

“Now, if he would have had – I don’t know who else it might have been, but if he had somebody else at the top, if Xander or somebody like that would have been there, he might have said, ‘Well, that might be a little tougher. I might have to do something different.’ He didn’t have to.”

Ouch. Now, nothing Nicklaus said is wrong. But talk about a slap in the face to Griffin, Straka and Taylor.
Ultimately, Nicklaus’s larger point is aimed at the importance of reuniting the PGA Tour and LIV Golf, which Scheffler recently spoke out about. The Memorial tournament deserves to host stars such as Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau. But until the two leagues reunite, that’s not going to happen.

Interestingly enough, Nicklaus did not name Rory McIlroy, who opted to skip the signature event and reportedly did not call Nicklaus to inform him ahead of time personally.
One thing is certain: Scheffler is a worthy champ. But it would have been nice to see another star player put some actual pressure on him.
