Simone Biles to her critics: ‘Don’t come for me about my hair’
“Next time you wanna comment on a black girls hair. JUST DON’T,” the gold medalist said.
Simone Biles has a message for those who may have comments about her hair at the women’s gymnastics team final at the 2024 Paris Olympics: Don’t talk about it.
The gymnast posted a video to her Instagram story on July 30 showing off her high ponytail — and a white minifan — just hours before the final was scheduled to begin.
“Don’t come for me about my hair. IT WAS DONE but bus has NO AC & it’s like 9,0000 degrees,” Biles wrote in the caption.

“Oh & a 45 min ride,” she continued.
In another Instagram story, the gold medalist added, “Gonna hold your hand when I say this. next time you wanna comment on a black girls hair. JUST DON’T.”
Biles and the rest of Team USA — Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey and Hezly Rivera — have their eyes on gold in the women’s team final on July 30.
Despite experiencing some snags during the qualifying round two days earlier, including Biles dealing with a calf injury and having to tape her lower leg, and Carey’s illness, the team reached the top of the scoreboard.
Why was Jordan Chiles asked to give her bronze medal back? The controversy, explained
Team USA is the heavy favorite to win gold, and has two previous individual all-around Olympic gold medalists on the same team, with Lee taking the gold in 2021 and Biles winning gold in 2016.
July 30 didn’t mark the first time Biles has received criticism over her hair — some of her followers weren’t fans of the updo she wore for her courthouse wedding with NFL player Jonathan Owens in 2023.
For the Houston ceremony, Biles wore a low-cut, tiered wedding gown and her hair in a high ponytail that showed off the dress’s neckline and tied-back detailing.
Biles responded to a post on X on April 23, 2023, questioning why people were worried about her hair.
“i think they also forget i live in HOUSTON TEXAS & I sweat those out!! soon as we stepped outside for pics,” she wrote. “But they can keep complaining idc idc idc.”
After the team final, Biles will get one day to rest before she’s back at Bercy Arena for the women’s all-around final on Thursday, Aug. 1, where she’s set to compete against teammate and reigning Olympic champion Lee.
The final for individual events, like vault and uneven bars, begin on Saturday, Aug. 3, and run through Monday, Aug. 5.
